We’re a trio of unlikely farmers—a scientist on a mission to cure spinal cord injury, a compassionate educator, and a creative software developer—growing vibrant microgreens in Birmingham, Alabama. As one of the city's only microgreen-focused businesses, we’re here to nourish our community with fresh, flavorful greens for restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, and families alike. Rooted in compassion and driven by purpose, we believe in feeding people well—one handful at a time.
CEO
By day, she’s a neuroscientist leading cutting-edge research on spinal cord injury at The Ohio State University. By weekends, she’s knee-deep in trays of tiny greens, growing big flavor and even bigger community impact. As a full-time faculty member, Ceren studies how nutrition affects the brain, the gut, and recovery after trauma—and as the CEO of Red Mountain Roots, she’s on a mission to bring those same healing, nourishing principles to every table in Birmingham. Fueled by science and heart, she believes food is medicine and that even the smallest roots (yes, microgreens!) can spark a movement toward wellness and connection. At Red Mountain Roots, she’s blending lab smarts with local love—because healthy communities grow best when they grow together.
CFO
Justin is the hands and heart behind every harvest at Red Mountain Roots. As our CFO and lead grower, he balances the books and the beds—nurturing each tray from seed to sprout with care and purpose. With a background in computer science and a passion for teaching, he brings a unique blend of precision and people-first thinking to everything he grows. A natural educator and life coach, Justin believes growing food is just one step toward growing a more connected, self-sustaining community. As a proud member of the LGBTQ community, he leads with authenticity, empathy, and a deep commitment to helping others thrive.
CSO
He’s a biologist at heart and a software developer by trade, with a knack for systems—whether they’re digital or rooted in soil. As CSO of Red Mountain Roots, he’s blending a passion for plants with a mind for strategy, helping the company grow from the ground up—literally and figuratively. Born and raised in Birmingham, he’s always had a green thumb and a drive to cultivate things that matter—whether it’s a thriving garden or meaningful relationships. With a deep respect for nature and a love for local community, he’s on a mission to connect people through food that heals, nourishes, and inspires.
